AccountEdge and Mac OS Catalina (64-bit) Updates
IMPORTANT: MAC OS CATALINA COMPATIBILITY STATEMENT

At this time, AccountEdge remains a 32-bit app. MacOS 10.14 Mojave is the last version of macOS that supports AccountEdge. If you want or need to upgrade to macOS Catalina, which supports only 64-bit apps, please refer to our October 9 update for options. A decade long project for Apple, this is a complete revamp of AccountEdge as well, and one in which we have invested years of effort. We still do not have a reliable release date at this time, and unfortunately we do not anticipate a release before the end of the year. We will continue to update this page as our work progresses.

We do not have an update and we still strongly encourage you to delay your upgrade to macOS Catalina until we have released a compatible version of AccountEdge. We have, however, posted options in case you cannot wait and need to (or already have) upgraded your OS to Catalina, including how to install and use Parallels to use AccountEdge in a macOS environment on your Catalina machine. We recognize these are workarounds and not ideal long-term solutions - we will continue to focus our efforts on a Catalina-compatible version.

Today, Apple released macOS 10.15, Catalina. This optional upgrade only supports 64-bit applications and the current version of AccountEdge is not 64-bit. We have been working on our macOS Catalina compatibility project ever since Apple made their developer roadmap public. As we’ve announced previously, we will not have this version ready for Catalina's release.

Apple has announced that they will release Catalina sometime in October. We still do not expect to have our Catalina-compatible AccountEdge upgrade ready in time for that release. We continue to work around the clock to deliver this massive rewrite and will provide more details on our expected delivery date when we have them. Until then, we strongly advise you to delay upgrading to Catalina. Again, AccountEdge will not run on Apple’s Catalina operating system. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.

As our developers continue to work non-stop on AccountEdge compatibility with macOS Catalina, we now recognize it is possible we will not meet the deadline. You must not upgrade to Catalina until we have released the new version of AccountEdge. Please check back to this page for updates. Apple announced today that a developer beta version of their new 64-bit macOS Catalina is available to registered developers, with a possible release in the fall. Apple plans to make a public beta available later in the summer.
As noted by macosrumors.com: “As with all new betas, you're not going to want to install macOS Catalina on a primary machine as it is early release software and could have major bugs.”
Please be aware that this new version of the operating system only supports 64-bit applications, and that AccountEdge is currently a 32-bit application. Therefore, AccountEdge will not work on Apple’s 64-bit macOS.
Again, if you install the beta version of the new macOS 10.15, AccountEdge will not be able to run. If you’re intending to run AccountEdge on your Mac, do not install the public or developer preview/betas of the new 64-bit operating system.
We are working towards a new 64-bit upgrade to AccountEdge, and we hope to release in a timely fashion to Apple’s actual release of their operating system. You will receive upgrade notifications. Until then, this is to serve as notification that AccountEdge 2019 and earlier will not work on Apple’s 64-bit macOS.
When running AccountEdge on High Sierra, MacOS 10.13 (or later) you may see a message about AccountEdge not being optimized for your Mac because it's a 32 bit application. As Apple says in the article linked to the message "Yes, you may continue to use 32-bit apps with your Mac today. Using 32-bit software has no adverse effects on your data or your computer.”
While AccountEdge is currently a 32 bit application, we have been hard at work on a 64-bit version.
Apple announced that the next MacOS version (suspected launch date in 2019) will be 64-bit only. We fully expect AccountEdge to be compliant with all future MacOS releases and to be 64-bit in alignment with Apple’s timeline.
As with any new operating system, we recommend you don’t install the next version of MacOS until it is officially released (in other words, don't run beta versions/public preview releases) if AccountEdge is critical to your business. We will share our compatibility statement when we have fully tested AccountEdge against the new, production version of the OS.
